Which physical (i.e., non-chemical) method would you use to sterilize a plastic item that melts above 50C and is damaged by UV?

Sterilization is the most important part of any biological experiment ,most experiments get ruined by mycoplasma, fungi or bacterial infection. To prevent all these many glasswares and plastic containers need to undergo sterilization process before we can proceed to experiment. Glass wares and some plastic wares are usually autoclaved at high pressure and temperature but for some plastic wares it's not possible as there is a chance of melting so what are the other methods available for sterilization process.

There are physical and non chemical methods and they are quite effective in sterilizing as well.

Generally gamma irradiation is used for those plastic substances which are heat sensitive and damaged by UV. The gamma rays are a form of electromagnetic radiation of very short-wave lengths which act as a source of ionising energy that destroys bacteria and other forms of contamination. This process is also known as cold process because the temperature wont be increased during the process.

Few others are

  1. Irradiation Sterilizing
  2. Dry Heat Sterilization
  3. LTHPGP Sterilization
  4. Steam Sterilization
  5. Gas Sterilization, Ethylene Oxide (EtO)
  6. Electron Beam (E-beam)
  7. Gamma Sterilization

All these methods can be used to clean the pastic wares.
